Jatin’s Going to College

Well after all the months of anticipation, hard decisions, shopping, researching, planning the weekend finally came where we moved Jatin into UCI. He chose a Sunday move in so he could have his weekend with the family. Since he’s the Toy Story generation I have always known I would save his childhood toys and re-create the going away to college scene as the toys watch him leave. He was a good sport and took some adorable pictures with Aanika as they played with their toy collections and then I got the awesome shot of his toys saying goodbye. It was perfect.

We left early Sunday morning for Irvine. Got there within an hour or so, grabbed some coffee bean and then headed for the campus. He got placed into a double classic room. It’s like a mini house, 2 floors, living room, full kitchen and mini suites for each set of 6 rooms. Neera & family happened to be on campus for her medical school reunion the same weekend so we got to have a family moment of all of us in his new place! His roommate Gavin seemed very kind and quiet *good roommate material! We moved him in, took him to lunch at the Royal Khyber and then left him overnight. Nick and I stayed close by at the Pendry and then headed back to campus by 11am Monday to give our hugs and kisses to son before heading home. It was a strange, sad feeling, but…very exciting also to see what he makes of this awesome opportunities. Onward and Upward son. To infinity and beyond. Love you.

The first week went by quickly! It was interesting the first full day home without son in his room somehow drew us all to his bedroom. I was tiding up the place, then Aanika came in and jumped in his bed and then Nick came home from work and headed up to find us in Jatin’s room. At that exact moment, Jatin called us and said “What are you guys up to?” And to his surprise we told him “We’re all hanging out in your room 🙂 We miss you!” He decided to take the train home the first weekend Friday-Sunday. It was quite the ordeal, but now that he’s done it once it should be an easier process. Love you kiddo! We’re so proud of you.
